1. Acceptance of Terms & Scope of Agreement

By downloading, installing, purchasing, or using the Prosaic application distributed through the official Microsoft Store, you explicitly agree to be legally bound by these Terms of Service and End-User License Agreement (EULA). If you do not agree with any provision herein, you must refrain from installing, launching, or purchasing the application.

2. License Grant and Authorized Usage

Prosaic is licensed, not sold. In consideration of your compliance with this agreement:

• License Grant: You are granted a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and run Prosaic on 64-bit Windows devices linked to your authorized Microsoft Store account.
• Commercial Writing Rights: You may use Prosaic for both non-profit artistic projects and fully commercial publication endeavours (e.g., selling digital books, printed paperbacks, or serial fiction).
• Restrictions: You may not decompile, disassemble, reverse engineer, circumvent licensing safeguards, sublicense, rent, or repackage the application binaries outside of Microsoft Store official distribution channels.

3. Absolute Author Copyright & Intellectual Property

We honor and defend the sanctity of literary creation:

All copyright, literary ownership, trademark rights, and commercial exploitation rights concerning manuscripts, chapters, outlines, character sheets, worldbuilding bibles, and exported deliverables (EPUB 3, PDF, DOCX, Markdown) created inside Prosaic belong 100% to you, the author. The creators of Prosaic claim zero royalties, zero ownership, zero licensing rights, and zero derivative claims over any text produced within the software. Furthermore, your manuscripts are never mined or fed into generative artificial intelligence or LLM training sets.

4. Free Trial, Microsoft Store Billing & Refunds

All financial aspects of Prosaic are handled strictly via Microsoft's official store platform:

• Unrestricted Free Trial: Prosaic offers a 7-day unrestricted trial granting full access to all split-screen, narrative pacing analysis, and export engines prior to purchasing.
• Store Commerce: Financial transactions, currency conversions, regional taxes, and perpetual activations are governed and secured exclusively by the Microsoft Store commerce engine. Prosaic developers never store or see your financial data.
• Refund Policies: Refund requests, billing inquiries, and purchase disputes must be directed to Microsoft Support in accordance with standard Microsoft Store customer return policies.

5. Data Custody, SQLite WAL & Backup Responsibility

Because Prosaic is architected as an offline-first studio:

• Write-Ahead Logging (WAL): Prosaic incorporates transactional SQLite journaling to prevent data corruption during typing or sudden power interrupts.
• Author Backup Custody: Since your manuscripts reside exclusively on your local hardware and are never uploaded to our servers, you maintain sole responsibility for periodically duplicating, exporting, and creating external backups (e.g., to external SSDs, USB drives, or personal cloud storage).

6. Disclaimer of Warranties & Limitation of Liability

Prosaic is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, neither the developer nor associated contributors shall be held liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, punitive, or consequential damages resulting from system crashes, third-party hardware failures, inadvertent file deletion, or loss of literary manuscripts.

7. Software Updates and Agreement Amendments

We may distribute periodic patches, performance improvements, and new publishing capabilities via automated Microsoft Store package updates. We reserve the right to revise these Terms of Service to reflect legislative changes, platform requirements, or architectural updates. Continued use of Prosaic following any posted updates constitutes binding acceptance of the revised agreement.
